We are currently accepting applications for EMS placements at St Anne’s – here’s some more information about what a placement might look like for you at our practice.
EMS student experience
At St Anne’s, we are happy to take on EMS students at all stages!
Opportunities available for EMS students and working hours
We offer EMS Monday through Friday, with working hours between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. On their first day, they will start at 8 a.m. so we can have someone to show them around. They are welcome to a day off in the week or a half day if they wish, as it is long hours and we are a busy practice.
They will be with the vets in consults and are welcome to look at samples in the lab, scrub in theatre, practice IVs and intubating, etc., under the supervision of a veterinary surgeon/RVN at the appropriate stage of their training. If they let us know what they need to concentrate on, then we will do our best to accommodate that.
What do we expect from our EMS students and what can they expect in return
We are happy to accommodate what they need. If they need more surgical skills, we can help with that; if they need to work on their cytology skills, they can practice in our lab, etc. We're pretty flexible, as we know that different practices excel in different areas, as do students.
They can expect support from us in every role. If they want to cover anaesthetics, then our nurses are happy to have them shadow them, along with nurse consults or general nursing in the hospital area. We generally wouldn't have students conduct consultations. In a hospital setting, they may be asked what they think, but not usually in front of the clients.
Travel and accommodation
We are located very close to Eastbourne train station.
The practice car park is for client use only. Parking for staff and students is on the road, but due to its proximity to the station, it is a busy area.
